Forged Checks Result In Police Chase

(MITCHELL, IN) - Several rumors were going around this weekend concerning a possible bank robbery in Mitchell.

After speaking with Mitchell Police Chief Jerry Presnell, WBIW News was able to confirm that no such bank robbery existed.

Presnell did however inform us of a group of about 5 Hispanic men attempting to cash forged checks in both Mitchell and Bedford.

Officers were first informed of the fraudulent checks after the group's attempt in Bedford.

When they tried to do the same at a Mitchell bank, police were on the scene.

The suspects were chased by police into a corn field off of Highway 37 behind the Mitchell CVS Store.

State Police as well as conservation officers were additionally called to the scene in an attempt to secure the area and capture the suspects, but were unsuccessful.

Investigators are now asking that anyone who may have any information on this story, to contact Mitchell Police at 812-849-2151.
