(MITCHELL, IN) - During a special meeting Thursday night, Mitchell City Council Members unanimously voted to adopt a ban of synthetic marijuana products marketed as K2, Spice and other names.

This coming week, North Lawrence school board members will consider doing the same on all school grounds.

K2 products contain a mixture of herbs and spices, sprayed with a synthetic compound that is chemically similar to THC which gives users of regular marijuana the "high" feeling.

Under Mitchell's ordinance, a person cannot "sell, barter, give, publicly display for sale, or attempt to sell, give or barter or possess any synthetic cannabinoid."

Violators can be fined $250.
