Hoosier National Forest Bans Fires, Smoking

Last updated on Tuesday, October 5, 2010

(UNDATED) - Due to the extended drought and high fire danger here in south central Indiana, the Hoosier National Forest has issued a ban on campfires and instituted smoking restrictions within the forest.

Officials with the national forest say that campfires are not allowed under any circumstances and visitors wishing to smoke a cigarette may do so only in an enclosed vehicle or building, developed recreation site or while stopped in an area that is cleared of all flammable material.

They say the fire ban will remain in effect until conditions improve.
