(NASHVILLE, IN) - A Nashville woman will spend the next 17 years in prison for the death of her husband and the arson of his home.
Dottie M. Andrews was sentenced Tuesday following a 5-hour court proceeding, including statements from relatives and friends of Robert Andrews.
Judge Judy Stewart passed down a sentence based on a plea agreement with Andrews.
The 40-year-old plead guilty but mentally ill to one count of voluntary manslaughter with a deadly weapon, a Class A felony, and one count of arson, a Class B felony.
Stewart sentenced her to 35 years in prison with the plea agreement originally calling for a sentence of no less than 30 and no more than 45 years.
Dottie's plea of guilty but mentally ill opens the possibility of her receiving mental health treatment while incarcerated.
Police were called to Robert Andrews home in June of 2009 to discover that the man and his dog had been shot in the head and his home was set on fire.
