Monroe County Pushing For Homeless Census

Last updated on Monday, May 24, 2010

(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - The Perry Township board is pushing for a countywide census of homeless people for long-term strategies to combat homelessness in Monroe County.

Perry Township Trustee Dan Combs says "before we design a community response to the problem of homelessness, we have to have a clear idea of what we're responding to."

The board voted to spend $5,000 for the census as a funding match, provided the city of Bloomington and Monroe County Council will also financially support the project.

Combs says that if the idea goes as planned, the census would take place this fall.
