Cell Phone Usage Causes Fatal Bloomington Car Wreck

Last updated on Tuesday, May 18, 2010

(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - Using a cell phone while driving may have been a contributing factor in a fatal Bloomington car wreck.

21-year-old Rebecca R. Lanter was pronounced dead at the scene of the weekend wreck.

According to police reports, Lanter had been driving on Monroe Dam Road, west of Strain Ridge Road and as she drove down a hill, the passenger side of her car left the road due to loose gravel.

Lanter, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck, crashed the car into a tree and died from head injuries.

Police say that there was a cell phone close to her left hand and that the woman may have been using it at the time of the crash.
