Gay Rights Group Makes Stop In Bloomington

Last updated on Wednesday, April 14, 2010

(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - A national gay-rights group made a stop in Bloomington Tuesday night to rally support for repeal of the military’s “don’t ask don’t tell” rule.

Jarrod Chlapowski came out as gay while serving as an army translator.

His unit was fine with it.

But Chlapowski left the army when his tour was up, and says the policy has created an unfair "culture of silence," made worse by inconsistent enforcement.

Chlapowski is visiting 26 cities to try to build grassroots pressure on senators to repeal the ban, including Indiana's Evan Bayh.
