Bartholomew County Deaths Ruled Murder-Suicide

Last updated on Wednesday, February 10, 2010

(COLUMBUS, IN) - Investigators say two recent deaths in Bartholomew County were a murder-suicide.

Sheriff Mark Gorbett says that 72 year-old Saundra Harter walked into the bedroom of her son, 51 year-old Greg Thomas and shot him multiple times as he was on his bed.

Harter then walked into another room of their mobile home and shot herself in the chest.

By the time the bodies were found, police believe roughly a week had passed. Investigators believe the deaths happened on or near January 28th.

Gorbett said that family members were shocked and could provide no motive for the killings.
