(SEYMOUR, IN) - The city of Seymour is inviting the Indiana State Police and Governor Mitch Daniels to attend a city council meeting and explain to the council why the state chose to consolidate Seymour's State Police post.

City officials say that too many questions about the decision has prompted the city to take action.

Councilman Jim Lucas says that the state should have given taxpayers an opportunity to provide their input on the situation.

Council President Mike Jordan says that the decision to end the decades-long relationship with the community, shows poor taste on the state's part in that they didn't notify local officials and those directly affected.

State Representative Terry Goodin has also sent a letter to the governor, asking him to reconsider his position.

Goodin believes public safety will suffer especially in the areas of police response times and patrols along I-65 in Jackson County.
