Man Pleads Guilty To Murder, Arson Fires

Last updated on Thursday, January 28, 2010

(SULLIVAN, IN) - A Sullivan man plead guilty to murder and two counts of arson Monday.

34-year-old Gregory L. Hale was arrested in Greene County in June after killing his ex-girlfriend, 34-year-old Jennifer Peak.

Following the alleged murder, Hale reportedly set fire to the woman's rural Sullivan County home and then drove her truck to Greene-Sullivan State Forest where he then set it on fire.

Peak and Hale are believed to have lived together for about three years along with a 2-year-old child when Peak kicked Hale out of her home.

The man then went to live with acquaintances in Linton.

Hale admitted Monday to what police say he had already told them following his June 22nd arrest.

The man admitted to strangling Peak to death and starting the arson fires.

Under a plea agreement submitted to the Sullivan Superior Court, Hale would accept a 45-year sentence for murder, a 20-year-sentence for setting fire to the victim's home and a three-year sentence for setting fire to her truck.

Hale is scheduled to be sentenced on March 8th.
