Convenience Stores Addressing Alcohol Sales

Last updated on Wednesday, January 13, 2010

(UNDATED) - The state’s convenience stores are teaming up to address alcohol sales to minors.

The Indiana Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association (IPCA) is voluntarily implementing a policy where everyone who buys alcohol in a convenience store will need to show a photo ID.

IPCA Executive Director Scott Imus says state excise police did a two year study that found the average non-compliance rate was 35%, but the convenience store industry had a 26% non-compliance rate.

About 450 stores have agreed to the voluntary policy, which Imus says will begin soon.
