Blaze Damages Unoccupied Buildings

Last updated on Tuesday, January 19, 2010

(UNDATED) - Area firefighters were called to work late Sunday night and early Monday morning to fight the blaze at two different buildings.

The first fire was reported at a former Fort Ritner store in Lawrence County at around 7:41PM Sunday evening.

Officials say that Taffy Brown and her son Jacob occasionally took residence there over the weekend but were not at the home at the time of the fire.

The building, which suffered heavy smoke, heat and water damage was engulfed at the time firefighters arrived at the scene.

The second fire in the listening area occurred later Monday morning just over the Jackson County line.

The former Pit Stop building was vacant at the time of the fire and officials say that it was being used for storage.

Lawrence County Police Chief Deputy Tony Siedl has informed Jackson County authorities that Lawrence County is investigating a string of arson fires in the Bartlettsville and Heltonville area.

Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig says that there is no indication that the 2:00AM Jackson County fire is related to 13 Lawrence County arson fires.

Anyone with information about the fires is asked to call the Lawrence County Police Department at 275-3316.
