Authorities Investigating Late-Night Shooting

(COLUMBUS, IN) - A Bartholomew County man was shot multiple times late Monday night.

Police officials are now searching for 35-year-old Juevencio Montez, who has been listed as a person of interest in the shooting case.

Authorities warn that Montez is considered armed and dangerous.

38-year-old Alberto Esparza Avitia was shot at Heritage Heights mobile home park in Bartholemew County and is in stable condition at an Indianapolis Hospital.

Avitia was shot in the back shortly before midnight.

Police then searched a residence in the neighborhood to see if their were any other victims.

Officials did not find the suspect in the shooting, nor did they find any additional victims; instead officers located 10 pounds of marijuana stored inside a diaper box, methamphetamine and a handgun.

Montez is described as Hispanic, 5-feet, 7-inches tall and 165 pounds.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department, 379-1650.
