Mitchell Residents Voice Views On Annexation

Last updated on Tuesday, December 22, 2009

(MITCHELL, IN) - The city of Mitchell held a public hearing Monday night to hear the opinions of Mitchell residents on the annexation of a former councilman’s property which sits outside the city.

Although the hearing was setup for residents to express their opinions of the annexation itself, which would move Everett Ferrell's property inside Mitchell city limits, most who voiced their thoughts mainly focused on the matter of the halt in progress inside the council and almost all of them seemed to be against the idea of annexation.

Everett Ferrell, who is no longer paid by the city since he has been vacated from the seat, says the state election committee recognizes him as living within limits that make him eligible to run for a city seat.

According to Mitchell Mayor Dan Terrell, even if the council decides to proceed with the annexation of Ferrell's property, he is still no longer a councilman because he wasn't elected while living in the city.

No decision on the case will be decided by the city until February 2010.
