(UNDATED) - The Indiana Department of Natural Resources calls it a standard year for controlled deer hunts at select Indiana State Parks.
Preliminary numbers indicate the reduction efforts on November 16th and 17th and again on November 30th and December 1st yielded 1,350 deer.
DNR Spokesman Mike Mycroft says it's about the same as 2008 when hunters killed 1,500.
Mycroft attributes the slightly lower number this year to a higher corn crop keeping deer away and poor weather during the first round of hunting.
Indiana DNR biologists evaluate which parks require a reduction each year based on vegetative recovery and previous hunter success at each park.
