(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - Bloomington City officials are buying the 27-acre CSX train switchyard to turn it into a city park.
City council members will reportedly consider a measure to approve the $400,000 purchase tonight.
Following the purchase, the city will then have more than 56 acres of land south of grimes lane and north of country club drive to develop into park or trail space.
Being a switchyard, various petroleums and metals contaminate the land, officials say the land will have to be remediated before the park can be opened.
The site served as a railroad switchyard from 1847 to 2004.
