(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding one of their police dogs biting a man Saturday afternoon.
The investigation's focus is how the Bloomington police dog got out of the police car in the first place, Captain Joe Qualters said Monday evening.
According to a report in the Bloomington Herald Times, the incident occurred at 13th Street and Woodlawn Avenue about 1:40 p.m. Saturday, as an officer assisted with traffic control for the Old Oaken Bucket football game.
The police car was parked and his canine companion was in the back of the car.
The officer was out of his car and standing at its left, front side, Qualters said.
As three men walked up to where the officer was standing, a fourth man in the group passed at the back, right side of the car.
The officer then reported hearing a man yelling, "Get the dog off of me," and discovered his dog out of the car and biting a man in the leg.
The 20-year-old man who was bitten was taken to Monroe Hospital by ambulance for treatment of three wounds on the back of his left leg, at the back of the knee and in the upper calf area.
The 20-year-old was released from the hospital after getting stitches.
