Jackson County Sees First H1N1-Related Death

Last updated on Tuesday, November 3, 2009

(SEYMOUR, IN) - Jackson County Health Department confirmed the community’s first death as a result of the H1N1 flu.

This news comes just after the news of Greene County's having its first reported H1N1-related death, which was announced Friday.

According to Dr. Kenneth Bobb "the cause of death (for the Jackson County woman) was pneumonia complicating H1N1 influenza."

The woman died October 15th.

Doctors are advising residents not to panic because of this information.

They say that washing your hands, covering your coughs and sneezes and staying home when you're sick are some of the best precautions in fighting the flu.

The state death toll from the 2009 H1N1 flu is now at 14.

Two H1N1 related deaths were also reported this past Friday in Hamilton and Allen counties.
