IU Data Center To Be Formally Dedicated

Last updated on Wednesday, November 4, 2009

(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - Indiana University’s new data center in Bloomington will be formally dedicated on Thursday.

The $32.7 million dollar facility will protect the university's computers, networking and data storage equipment.

It will also house the supercomputers for IU's recently announced $15 million dollar future grid project, primarily funded by the National Science Foundation.

University officials also say the new data center will make administrative computer systems that maintain course records, degrees and financial information much safer.

The bunkered concrete building is designed to withstand flooding, power outages and severe weather, including an F-5 tornado.

The university says the new building will allow for the expansion of information technology in education and research and attract even more major grants.
