(ORLEANS, IN) - The town of Orleans recently learned its downtown has been placed on National Register of Historic Places.

A nomination was submitted to the Department of the Interior's National Park Service by Saving Historic Orange County.

The yearlong project was a collaboration between the town of Orleans and Saving Historic Orange County and is bounded by Wilson, Franklin, Harrison and Fourth streets and includes some 200 properties.

Plans are reportedly in the works for a brief dedication ceremony with a formal celebration during the Dogwood Festival next spring.
