(UNDATED) - Newspapers across the state have been struggling to find ways to reverse the erosion of readers and advertisers caused by several factors including the internet and the poor economy.

The Hoosier State Press Association has started a newspaper ad campaign stressing the importance of newspapers.

Governor Mitch Daniels and IU President Michael McRobbie are two prominent Hoosiers appearing in ads for the campaign called, "Newspapers Still Deliver".

Dennis Ryerson, Editor and Vice President of the Indianapolis Star, says he's gratified by the governor's participation in the campaign.

He says the Indy Star is putting greater emphasis on investigative reporting and less on the breaking news that gets old before a newspaper can hit the stands.

Ryerson says, "to talk about our strengths isn't to dismiss the strengths of broadcast or other platforms.

It's just that we're different and that we still have a lot of strengths that we're going to be protecting with the tenacity of a mother cat."
