Arson Not The Cause Of The Brownstown Fire

Last updated on Wednesday, October 7, 2009

(BROWNSTOWN, IN) - Investigators, trying to determine the cause of the fire which severely damaged the building that housed The Pizza Stop restaurant in downtown Brownstown have ruled out the possibility of the fire being arson.

Fire Chief Andy Lockman says that he is working with the State Fire Marshal's Office to determine the cause of the blaze.

Lockman said crews finished going through the building and still have a few people to interview; he says the cause of the fire should be known on Thursday.

Lockman describes the building as not being a total loss.

He estimated the building sustained $300,000 in damage.

The building next door, a senior center, sustained only smoke and water damage; that building is owned by the city of Brownstown.
