(COLUMBUS, IN) - A Columbus Animal Control officer was hospitalized after an accident on I-65 Sunday.

Police say officer Mike Briner and another officer were trying to catch a dog that had made its way onto the interstate.

Most of the traffic had slowed to avoid the animal but the driver of a pickup truck didn't see the cars in front of him slowing down and swerved into the emergency lane where the officers were located.

The incident remains under investigation.
