Nashville Opry Ruins Being Investigated With Heavy Equipment

Last updated on Tuesday, September 22, 2009

(NASHVILLE, IN) - Investigators are trying to discover the cause of a fire that destroyed a Brown County attraction.

The little Nashville Opry was totally destroyed Saturday night as a result of the blaze.

No one was hurt, but according to Nashville residents the fire has left the Brown County community shocked.

The Opry, just south of Nashville on State Road 46, opened in 1975 and has hosted such artists as Johnny Cash, George Strait and Trisha Yearwood.

Originally a sawmill and later an indoor horse arena, the Opry was transformed into a show venue by four couples.

The Opry held 2,000 people at peak capacity and was usually filled on Saturday nights when top country music talent would perform.

Heavy equipment will be brought in today to help fire investigators access more parts of the building.
