(NASHVILLE, IN) - As fire investigators look for the cause of a blaze that destroyed the Little Nashville Opry, the Brown County Treasurer’s Office claims the owner owes nearly $64,000 in back taxes.
Officials are pushing for owner, Esther Hamilton, to cover her outstanding tax bills, totaling $63,853.17.
Records indicate Hamilton got her most recent tax bill in July of this year.
The taxes were due in August but have not been paid. Hamilton has nine properties under the company name Little Nashville Enterprises and for three of the nine, she owes taxes dating back to 2002.
According to Brown County Volunteer Fire Department spokesman Mark Imhoff, this is the third property owned by Hamilton that has burnt to the ground for unknown reasons; although the investigation in the Opry case continues.
Brown County Chief Deputy Treasurer Marty Davidson says Hamilton will likely need to cover the costs if she plans to secure financing from a lender to rebuild.
If Hamilton fails to work out a plan with Officals to pay the real estate, building, entertainment, vacant land and personal property taxes, a tax sale will be held.
That could happen as early as October, 2010.
