Last updated on Thursday, September 17, 2009

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The National Collegiate Athletic Association lost its president yesterday.

Officials at the NCAA Headquarters in Indianapolis confirm that President Myles Brand passed away from cancer on Wednesday; he was 67.

Spokesman Chuck Wynne says Brand was involved in NCAA activities until his health took a turn for the worst last weekend.

Brand served as president of the University of Oregon from 1989 to 1994, then led Indiana Univeristy as its President from '94 to 2002.

Brand was president when the IU Board of Trustees voted to dismiss former Head Basketball Coach Bob Knight.
