(SEYMOUR, IN) - A disaster declaration requested for Jackson, Brown and 13 other counties related to heavy rains and ensuing flooding has been denied by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

FEMA Administrator W. Craig Fugate told officials that Gov. Mitch Daniels' request for a major disaster declaration caused by severe storms that originally began August 4th was rejected.

Two Jackson County homes were destroyed by flooding and 10 others sustained major damage to the point in to which they were inhabitable said Duane Davis of Jackson County Emergency Management.

Indiana 9th District Rep. Baron Hill says that he has received many calls of residents informing him of damage to southern Indiana areas.

Hill states, "these calls only reaffirm that I believe FEMA should reconsider its decision."
