Last updated on Monday, August 24, 2009

(SEYMOUR, IN) - A head-on collision in Seymour claimed one life Sunday evening.

Indiana State Police and the Jennings County Sheriff's Department responded to the fatal crash on County Road 275 west after receiving calls that a wreck had occurred.

Preliminary investigation revealed that 20-year-old Ronald Bishop Jr. was traveling northbound on County Road 275 west in a Ford F150 when a dog ran into the roadway.

Bishop swerved his vehicle to the left lane in an attempt to miss the dog and then struck, head on, a 1989 Ford Mustang driven by 32-year-old Jason Carr, resulting in Carr's death.

When police arrived at the scene, the Ford F150 had come to its resting place on the hood of the Mustang.

Bishop claimed that he did not see the Mustang coming at him when he swerved into the left lane.

A dog was confirmed to be wondering the area before the accident.

According to Indiana State Police, Ronald Bishop was wearing a seatbelt, meanwhile Jason Carr was not.

Trooper Derrick Simpson stated that Carr received fatal injuries in the crash from the steering column of his car.
