(MITCHELL, IN) - The boil order for Mitchell is expected to be lifted this morning at around 8:30AM.
Mitchell Mayor Dan Terrell told WBIW News that the water was tested yesterday morning and that water may be drinkable again by 8:30AM Friday.
The malfunction was caused by a bad solenoid switch on a chlorinator which automatically chlorinates our water. Before the city could catch it, chlorine levels in water throughout Mitchell dropped.
According to Mayor Terell the city is required to increase the chlorination levels during incidents like these and then test the water two times, 24 hours apart.
Terrell informed WBIW that the first test (taking place yesterday morning) passed as expected and he is positive that, following the test this morning, Mitchell water should be safe to drink again without boiling first.
The boil order was lifted at 8:30AM this morning.
