Indiana University The Site Of A Full-Scale Disaster

Last updated on Wednesday, August 19, 2009

(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - Indiana University Assembly Hall and the IU Fieldhouse are the sites of a full-scale disaster, although not a real disaster, rather a disaster drill.

From 1:00PM until 5:00PM the Monroe County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) coordinated a full-scale disaster exercise on the Indiana University campus.

The exercise involves many of Monroe County's emergency response agencies.

The concept was aimed to ensure preparedness in responding to a real disaster and is due to recent violent incidents in schools and on college campuses which have become an increasing concern for some parents, students and those who respond to life threatening incidents.

Police and firefighters will be rescuing the injured using 31 local volunteers portraying victims of a hazardous material incident and hostage situations.
