Last updated on Monday, August 10, 2009

(MARTINSVILLE, IN) - Indiana State Police and the Martinsville City Police responded to a possible helicopter crash on the west side of Martinsville behind an apartment complex at around 11:30AM yesterday morning.

When officers arrived at the scene they observed 50-year-old Mark O McDaniel of Martinsville walking away from the helicopter wreckage.

McDaniel was examined at the scene by medical personnel and then released.

McDaniel stated that he was flying his Brantley B2B twin seat helicopter performing auto rotations when he lost control of the aircraft only 200 yards behind an apartment complex.

Witnesses observed the helicopter spin uncontrollably before its crash.

Indiana State Police will secure the location until the Federal Aviation Administration arrives to conduct a crash investigation.
