Aircraft Crash Kills Two

(SWITZ CITY, IN) - Two people have died as a result of an ultralight aircraft crash Tuesday evening at around 6:15PM.

The two-seat aircraft crashed into a field in Switz City in Greene County.

According to Greene County Coroner Brian Gainey, the victims have been identified as Dave Johnson of Linton and Mark Muzii of Bloomington. Formal notifications of the next of kin was completed prior to the release of the names.

Both flyers were wearing helmets during the incident.

Indiana State Police arrived at the scene not long after the crash, pronouncing the two flyers dead.

Police remained at the scene until the FAA arrived at the location a little after 7:00PM, the bodies of the two men were not removed from the wreckage until the FAA arrived.

The FAA was immediately contacted by police officials.

Autopsies for both victims had been scheduled to take place at 8:00AM this morning in Terre Haute.

According to Sergeant Joe Watts, a spokesman for the Indiana State Police, Johnson was piloting the aircraft south over the airfield when he attempted a left turn to make an approach to land.

The aircraft then struck the ground, killing both occupants.

Not much more information is available at this time.

The FAA will continue their investigation of the crash.
