(BEDFORD) - The tree-killing emerald ash borer has been found in two more heavily forested southern Indiana Counties.
The Department of Natural Resources says the invasive green beetle has been found in Lawrence and Orange Counties, confirming its spread in that area beyond Monroe and Brown Counties near Bloomington.
Since 2004, the ash borer has been found in 23 Indiana counties, most heavily in the state's northeastern corner.
Large infestations of the insect have killed millions of ash trees in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana since 2002.
The DNR has imposed a quarantine, prohibiting the transportation of wood from ash trees from infected areas.
