(MILLTOWN) - State police from the Jasper District are assisting with an investigation into the shooting death of a 2-year-old Crawford County girl.

State Police Sgt. Chad Dick says police responded to a 911 call of a shooting at 7250 Speed Road in Milltown and when officers arrived, they found the little girl dead from an apparent gunshot.

An autopsy is scheduled for today in Louisville and authorities don't expect to have results back before late this afternoon, and police are speaking with witnesses to ascertain just exactly what happened.

Dick says they and the Crawford County Sheriff's Department are just treating the incident as a death investigation at the moment, and are withholding the name of the 2-year-old victim until they can notify family.

Update: 12:27pm 4/21/2009
The victim has been identified as 2-year-old Alexis B. Camp of Milltown. Authorities are still following up on leads and are still conducting the investigation as a "death investigation," and not as anything more.
