Gunshot Wound Killing 2-Year-Old Found To Be Self-Inflicted

Last updated on Wednesday, April 22, 2009

(MILLTOWN) - The autopsy and investigation are complete in the shooting death of 2-year-old Alexis Camp in Crawford County.

State Police Jasper Sgt. Chad Dick says Camp died of a self-inflicted accidental gunshot wound to her head. Dick says Camp found a semi-automatic pistol in an area where she could reach it, and unfortunately pulled the trigger accidentally.

When police finish wrapping up loose ends on the investigation, they plan on forwarding paperwork to the Crawford County prosecutor.

Sgt. Dick reminds people who have weapons in the home to make sure they are unloaded, locked and with the ammo in a separate location, and to educate your children on what to do when they find a gun.
