Four Locals Picked Up For Meth-Related Activity In Martinsville

Last updated on Friday, April 10, 2009

(MARTINSVILLE) - Another group of Lawrence County residents were picked up for meth somewhere else, this time, in Morgan County.

The Martinsville Reporter Times says 23-year-old Evan Blakey, 22-year-old Casey Staggs, and 30-year-old David Johnson, all of Bedford, and 18-year-old Matthew Johnson of Mitchell were all jailed in Morgan County in connection with trying to pick up anhydrous ammonia.

The paper says a rookie officer spotted a red Ford Thunderbird at a business on Morton Avenue, and when they came back around to check on it, it fled, driving through another businesses lot, chucking a fire extinguisher and black tubing out of the car, and then hitting a tree.

Blakey and Staggs were picked up at the scene while the Johnsons fled, but were picked up later.

When the extinguisher was tossed, it started spewing white gas from it.

After a check, they found the extinguisher was filled with anhydrous ammonia.
