Emptied Grenade Causes Scare In Bloomington

(BLOOMINGTON) - Emergency crews in Bloomington had a section of the city cordoned off yesterday for an explosives scare...that turned out to be a dud.

The Bloomington Herald Times reports police were called to the 500 block of West 7th Street around 2:00pm yesterday afternoon to the report of a grenade found by a man and his son as they were clearing brush near their home.

Unsure as to whether it was a live one or not, Danny Baker and his son Brad called police, who then called crane bomb squads to handle the matter.

Techs arrived at the barricaded off area around 3:00pm, and within minutes decided that, though it was a real grenade, it was disarmed, and cleared the area out.

Bomb techs told the paper that usually, disarmed grenades have a hole drilled in the bottom of them where the powder is removed, but this one was dismantled, drained, and put back together without the hole.
