After 12 Years Of Going Cold, Two Arrested In Perry County Murder

Last updated on Friday, April 17, 2009

(TELL CITY) - A Perry County cold case warmed up in a hurry, and two cousins have been arrested.

State Police Jasper Sgt. Chad Dick says 12 years ago, Deborah Mills-Cioe's body was found with her throat cut near Tobinsport on Highwater Road, and her death was ruled a homicide, but police couldn't track down enough evidence to make an arrest.

That was back in 1997.

Fast forward to tax day, April 15th, this past Wednesday, a grand jury handed down an indictment after new evidence was gathered, leading to the Wednesday arrests of two men.

Dick says 36-year-old Thomas E. Lane of Tell City and his cousin, 37-year-old Thomas D. Lane of Gentryville, are standing charged with murder, felony murder, and attempted rape.

The two are now being held in Perry County jail without bond.
