Wednesday Is Katie Stam Day, New Miss Indiana Crowned Thursday

Last updated on Wednesday, March 4, 2009

(SEYMOUR) - It’s a new holiday today in the City of Seymour.

The Seymour Mayor's Office has declared today, Wednesday, March 4th, Miss America Katie Stam Day.

Seymour Mayor Craig Luedeman cited Stam's origins in Jackson County, her graduation from Seymour High School and attending University of Indianapolis, and her winning the tiaras of both Miss Indiana and Miss America as reasoning for his declaration.

Katie Stam is the first Hoosier in the almost 90 year history of the Miss America pageant to take home the crown.

Stam will return to the University of Indianapolis on Thursday for the first time since claiming the crown in January.

Before winning the pageant and committing to a full year of public appearances, she was scheduled to graduate in May.

So in addition to attending a reception in her honor, Stam plans to meet with her academic adviser to discuss the eventual completion of her college degree requirements.

On Friday in Zionsville, Stam will crown her Miss Indiana replacement, Megan Meadors, who coincidentally graduated from UIndy in December.
