Steele, Koch, Blanton Appear For Final Third House Session Saturday

Last updated on Monday, March 16, 2009

(BEDFORD) - Area state legislators, including Republicans Brent Steele and Eric Koch, and Democrat Sandy Blanton, got together with area residents Saturday for the last time for this year’s General Assembly session, and discussed the issues before the statehouse.

Some of the major issues that came up during the meeting, and the question and answer session that followed, included ISTEP testing, meth labs, property tax caps and the stimulus package, gas prices, and related energy projects.

"There will be consumer rebates for energy audits," Koch started to explain, "for energy saving improvements, and much of the focus of that is going to be on energy efficiency, and conservation, which, over the long run, saves energy. There will be earmark money designated for renewable energy, there will be a promotion of what they call 'Energy Star' products, these are the appliances that are high efficiency, and the fourth piece is funding to make federal government buildings more energy efficient.

That was the one of those four items that, it was really underscored to us, that would be most immediately available for local businesses."

The last day for adjournment of both houses for the 2009 General Assembly session is April 29th.
