IU Professor On The "Hot Seat" In Confirmation Hearing

Last updated on Thursday, March 19, 2009

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Testimony was offered and a hearing held for the confirmation of Professor Dawn Johnsen to the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel.

Johnsen has spent the past several years as a constitutional law professor at Indiana University in Bloomington, and before that, served as acting Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel under President Clinton.

President Barack Obama nominated her officially to take over that position on a permanent basis. Indiana Senator Evan Bayh testified on her behalf, and she appears to have the approval of Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Senator Pat Leahy (D-Vermont).

If she passes the committee vote today, she moves to the full senate for final confirmation.
