BPD Laying The Camera Down On Area Gas Thieves

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Police Department have decided they're tired of people driving off from gas stations without paying for their fuel.

Now they are aiming to use local media, both radio and newspaper, to find these petrol pilfering pirates plundering from purveyors of puissance.

"So many times when we get drive offs, from a service station, unless the owner or the service manager gets a plate number, we are somewhat dead in the water," Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley tells WBIW News.

"So what we thought we might do to do some more extensive follow up in these cases, a lot of times we have security footage available of the vehicle and, perhaps, even the person that's pumping the gas, but you have no access to license plates or anything like that," Parsley continued.

"So we thought, in an effort to just, one more area we could perhaps get some public input on this is start making these photos public through the media, and if someone recognizes either the individual or recognizes the vehicle, that they might contact the police department."

Parsley says there has been no increase in the number of drive-offs in the Bedford area, the generated focus was just from an idea one of the department's detectives had. Parsley also says those caught driving off without paying for fuel will be charged with theft, which is a Class-D felony.

What the charge is for the unnecessary use of long alliterations is, however, unknown.
