Alcohol Thought To Be Cause Of Fatal Greene County Wreck

Last updated on Monday, March 2, 2009

(LINTON) - One man is dead following a traffic accident early this morning in Greene County.

The Greene County Sheriff's Office reports 29-year-old Eric Garrett of Sullivan was driving near Linton when, for reasons still unknown, he left the roadway, and struck a concrete bridge, tearing off his Jeep's left front wheel and driver's side door, and ejecting Garrett from the vehicle.

A passerby came upon the scene of the wreck around 2:30 this morning, saying a lifeless body was lying near the vehicle.

When crews arrived, including Greene County Deputy Cononer Tim Barker, Garrett was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Greene County Sheriff's report says officers believe alcohol was a contributing factor, and have blood samples out for toxicology testing as a result.
