Renowned Bedford-Raised Oncologist Dies Of Skin Cancer

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Dr. Stephen Williams, a Shelbyville native who had been director of IU’s Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center ever since it was established in 1992, has died at the age of 62, ironically a victim of melanoma.

He had been diagnosed in the summer of 2007.

Dr. Williams was born in Shelbyville but raised here in Bedford, and earned his medical degree and performed his residency at Indiana University.
