Pelfree Trial May Wrap Today

Last updated on Friday, February 27, 2009

(BLOOMINGTON) - The body-barrel double homicide case in Bloomington may wrap up as early as today.

The Bloomington Herald Times is reporting Monroe County Deputy Prosecutor Jeff Kehr finished his evidence presentation early yesterday afternoon, and defense attorney Ron Chapman, presenting the case of defendant Jerry Pelfree, will present his evidence this morning, and the paper says there's not much of it.

The trial was scheduled for 2 weeks, originally, however, one of the factors shortening the trial is the sheer lack of evidence overall.

The paper reports investigators have been unable to produce the actual rifle used in the murders, and everything else they've presented, including guns, saws and body parts, have had no DNA or blood on them that would tie Pelfree to the crime.

The prosecution's case lays entirely on the witness testimony of Troy Harden, who says he saw Pelfree do it.
