ISP Investigating New "Granchild In Canada" Scam

Last updated on Monday, February 16, 2009

(UNDATED) - State Police in Jasper are warning area Hoosiers of a new, and rather creative scam, affecting the area.

Sgt. Chad Dick of the Jasper Post says people are calling elderly people in the area, claiming to be their grandchildren, and having enough information to actually pull off the ruse.

They then say they got into trouble in Canada and need money.

State police ask people with info on this scam to call (800) 742-7475, which is the number for the Jasper Post.

Update: 2/16/2008 9:16am
The number announced on the news cast on-air was mistakenly listed as (800) 752-7475. This correct number is, indeed (800) 742-7475. We here at WBIW News apologize for the mistake.
