Highway Speed Accident Sends Small Truck Airborne

Last updated on Thursday, February 26, 2009

(MITCHELL) - A left turn on IN-37 yesterday morning resulted in a car being sent airborne, and its driver to the hospital.

Mitchell Police Department reports say 57-year-old David Moldrem of Orleans was heading north when 81-year-old Barbara Lindley of Mitchell turned left from the southbound lanes in front of him.

Moldrem struck Lindley's compact pickup at highway speed, sending it airborne and making it turn a 180 before it stopped.

Lindley struck her head on the windshield and on the passenger side of the truck and was taken to Bedford Regional Medical Center, bleeding from her head.

Marion Township Capt. Richard Padgett says crews from his department had to cut her out of her vehicle to get her to safety.
