Flooding Concerns May Have Been Premature

Last updated on Tuesday, February 10, 2009

(UNDATED) - With 8 inches of snow on the ground and heavy rain in the forecast, meteorologists were concerned with the potential for heavy flooding in Central and Southern Indiana this week, but now the tune has changed.

Crystal Lynn Pettie with the National Weather Service says the ground was able to handle the rapid snow melt from the weekend which has set the stage for the earth to receive the two rain systems headed this direction.

The second system rolls through Wednesday and is expected to drop 1 to 2 inches of rain.

A flood warning remains for the White River East Fork in Lawrence, Jackson and Washington Counties which won't expire until at least Thursday morning, and a high wind watch for the entire listening area starts tonight and also goes to Thursday morning.
