Dubois Couple Would Rather Not Be Arrested

Last updated on Tuesday, February 24, 2009

(DUBOIS) - A couple from Dubois, Indiana made a rough night for one Indiana state trooper.

Jasper State Police Sgt. Todd Ringle says Trooper Greg Ashby was off duty on IN-56 when he saw a pickup driven by 39-year-old Robert Jones sitting sideways, blocking the road, apparently trying to get into his driveway.

Ashby determined Jones was appeared drunk, and when he went to make the arrest, Jones' passenger, 43-year-old Tamara Batiz, jumped on his back.

Once he fought her off and cuffed Jones, he went to cuff her and that's when Jones knocked him to the ground.

Eventually, additional French Lick, West Baden, Orange County and state officers arrived to assist, and both were taken into custody.
