Council Approves Measure Allowing City To Take Loans To Cover Tax Renevues

Last updated on Wednesday, February 11, 2009

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford City Council tackled the issue of loans to cover outstanding tax revenues at their meeting last night.

At the Bedford City Council meeting taking place last night, one particular topic discussed was an ordinance that allows the Mayor and Clerk-Treasurer to make temporary loans to pay off fees and employees while waiting for tax revenue to arrive.

Beford Clerk-Treasurer Julie Blackwell-Chase said, "What you fall into is that we're waiting for our money, and we're not always sure when we're going to get our money from the county, and so it gets a little bit nervous if the auditor of the county says that we're anticipating, on a certain day, maybe in May or July, but then it's two or three months later."

A similar ordinance was passed late last year for storm problems, but luckily even with all of the storms, it was not needed.

Last night's ordinance was passed with no objections.

The council also discussed planning, zoning and building fees and traffic codes.
